Basford Library

RENDERED FLOOR PLAN.png

Basford Library is a short tram ride from Nottingham City Centre. The library needed help to bring visitors and business  into the library to bring extra funding and life to the site. My design involved using the lake and park attached to the site to attract visitors and educate the children on the wildlife around the library. I also looked into the psychology behind needing proper breaks when doing work and revision, in order to be functional and productive, therefore I placed break retreats over the library and the park. Emphasising the link between the park and library was extremely important, therefore a new entrance was created and shapes are replicated outside from the inside.

Looking at the surrounding site was extremely important when working on this library. To bring in more visitors, the families and individuals in the area needed to be understood, so their needs and wants could be met in this space. An overwhelming amount of families in the area had children, so expanding the already over-crowded children play area was crucial. Furthermore, looking at other libraries in the area and exploring their successful and not so successful elements, helped to create a functional and well-loved space for the local residents.
